THE TARUMAMA LOVES YOU

I want that you read this story, the true story told in Nariño,because there is not another story that could be more tragic.

Long time ago there was a beautiful woman, she is called the Weeping woman or the Tarumama. The Tarumama lived in Mayasquer, it was a town located behind a volcano. She enjoyed to play with plants and flowers. Sometimes she went to the river and talked to the girls in the town, so many people knew her therefore, she appealed to all men even the male species and gods. The legend told by the natives says that the rainbow or Cueche named there by natives admired her beauty and he fell in love with her instantly.

One day, Cueche went to the river because he wanted to see her. So he looked for her and she was sleeping, So he came when she was sleeping, he tied her hands to a tree and he tried to rape her. She woke up when she felt him. At the beginning she resisted but then she liked his touch. As she had not grown with a family she didn’t know what thing was wrong or right. He noticed that the Tarumama enjoyed his touch, so he untied her hands and they started kissing and touching each of their body parts. When they eventually ended they fell asleep. When the Tarumama woke up the moonlight bathed their figures and she saw a little light falling from the moon and it reached on his stomach. She didn’t know what had happened, but it was a really special moment.

They met every day at 4 pm. They walked and picked beautiful flowers near the volcano; they were in love. Gods cannot know about them because there was a rule that no god could fall in love with a human. But, they didn’t mind; they just wanted to be together as long as possible.
Sooner rather than later, gods found out about their relationship and they forbade him to return to earth. The Cueche could only see her from the sky. She really missed him but her life should continue.

One day, she went to the river to wash a garment and then she bathed herself because she felt a sharp pain in his lower belly. Surprisingly, she felt something coming out of her body. It was a baby, their baby. She couldn’t hold her baby. Both the Tarumama and her baby were dragged by the strong river current. When she woke up her baby wasn’t with her.

The people said that the Cueche or Rainbow became very sad and lost the most striking colors that he had (in the region the people said that the rainbow had more than seven colors). But the truth is that because he enjoyed being praised for their colors by the people, the gods punished him putting a spell in the eyes of the people therefore we cannot see all the rainbow colors.

Tarumama began to look for his son near the river but she didn’t find him. The gods punished her for losing a demigod. Since then she lost her beautiful appearance, she must punish evil men and continued looking for her son.

The Cueche and the Tarumama were punished and their love was had damned. The rainbow comes out almost always during the day, and comes out at night when she cannot go out to look for their son, they cannot see each other never more. The people said that both cry for their son because is the only proof that their love existed.

Many of the mothers in Nariño forbid their children to be close to the river bank after six in the afternoon because the Tarumama can confuse and take them away. The people said that she seeks unfaithful men and eats them, but she is only obliged to do that, it is the only food her body tolerates, She is not a killer!

Small demigod if you read this I want to tell you that your mother is looking for you, she loves you, the Tarumama loves you.

If you comes into contact with him please feel free to leave your comment.

CONTEXTUALIZATION

CUMBAL

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/3MEqX9zsYSw/sddefault.jpg
The story takes place near the volcano of Cumbal Nariño. It's full of flowers and trees instead. It also has a strong river currents and a deep lake whose waters are black.
Geographically the village is known as Cumbal, but as it is an indigenous town (It is said that 100% of the population, about 93% are indigenous) also known as the Great Indigenous Reservation Cumbal. Although it is an indigenous town, Spanish is the most spoken language, of course there are some words that only are spoken there, such  as achichay or achichucas

FOOD
www.huekaguarandena.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/cuy.jpg
Cumbal is a cold place; it is about 3100 AMSL, for that reason potatoes, beans, carrots and many vegetables are produced. Furthermore it is supported of livestock. There is  a cold dessert typical of the region the Paila ice cream, In the past the peasants took down the ice blocks of the same volcano but now with modernity and global warming this practice has been forgotten. If we talk about typical dishes, the Cuy is the dish that definitely represents this region, much of Ecuador and Peru.

TOURISM

It has two of the largest volcanoes in Colombia: the Cumbal volcano and the Chiles volcano which each have a lake. Mythically it said that the two volcanoes are the male and female. Hot water comes out of the Chiles Volcano and there people go to relax.

Other tourist attractions are the stone mines, the interesting thing there is the Stone of the Machines. This is a stone made by Los Pastos before colonization. It has a hieroglyphics with monkeys and the sun is in the center, the people said that Los Pastos were the first nation to discover that the sun is the center of the universe.

CLOTHING
Nowadays, people wear sheep wool ruanas and hats, but before the peasant women wore colorful skirts with braids. It is a pity that many customs have changed because of capitalism.

ARCHITECTURE
http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/10725739.jpg
In Cumbal most of the houses have two level, there are very few old houses built of earth and stone, since the village was demolished by an earthquake many years ago. As in most towns in Colombia, the central park has the town hall and the Catholic Church. People said that the church's Central Park is one of the most beautiful in the region because it is made of stone.
